Hedging is for pussies. j/k.
My best WAG: We get CM but WS will nit pick at something, traders will sell the news, modestly, then AAPL sees strength, as institutions see that the water is safe again. I'm confident Apple is having a great quarter ($15+ EPS) and WS knows this, but that won't prevent them from pinching the retail investor a bit more before buying back in earnest.

That's like hiring the pilot of the Hindenberg to captain the Titanic. The only thing funnier would be hiring a Blackberry or Nokia exec.

P.S. My "contacts" in China are just friends who have no insider intel but are just "boots on the ground" who follow Apple, much as we do. Nothing authoritative, by any means.
It would seem to me that CM would want to make a splash with 4G (and hopefully, iPhone), so my guess is they'll do it between 9am - 12pm, which get released to us around 5pm - 8pm PST today. Perhaps not coincidentally, AFTER the AH session closes.

Not sure what's so funny...is anyone here really dumb enough to believe there's no one smart that's worked for Microsoft? I'm sure there are many, many brilliant people there and Microsoft is one of the biggest Tech companies around. I know people Hate Microsoft because "they aren't Apple", but they had 8B in Net Income in 2004, today they're at over 22B. Yes, Apple is better...but I'd sure be happy if Apple tripled their income in 10 years.

I'm just happy they're hiring someone from outside the beltway.

The GUY's wife is a Democratic Congresswoman from Wash. state. hmmmmm... He was probably sitting around in Washington with little else to do. How much of a cut in pay do you figure he took? On a serious note. I couldn't care less who he's married to. Either he has integrity or he doesn't.

Seems China Mobile is in "launch now or really soon" mode, but only they know what they'll do. I assume we'll get news reports of that conference not long after the keynote's done.

FYI, Apple issued its guidance reiteration/upgrade 8K a week before the end of the sep quarter after the iPhone launch weekend.
If there is a china mobile announcement today (likely IMO) and it actually launches before quarter end (less certain) - then tonight would also make sense as the time when Apple would issue a guidance reiteration/upgrade 8K.
I know some consider that the China Mobile news is "priced in", but I don't think anyone is expecting a guidance upgrade tonight.
(How does one determine "priced in" anyway. If it was priced in at $575, is it still priced in at $555?)

Am the only one expecting a 20 point pop up or down tomorrow? Could be anything. The could announce that they will start selling iphones, but not until next Q... stock may be flatish on that news

Am the only one expecting a 20 point pop up or down tomorrow? Low volume today suggests expectations are not overdone. A modest retracement from any CM disappointment may be fleeting. I don't expect a $20 pop up, either. Institutions are waiting for the news before buying (more) are KEY to Apple going higher, not traders nor retail.

It has occurred to me that there might just be the network announcement and then nothing else.
But c'mon. "We're launching our new TD-LTE network with these partners!" makes tons more sense to me. BWDIK.
Mercel, any of your friends/contacts in China know if there's real-time coverage of the CM partner conference?

I won't link to it either but pulled the only quote that mattered to me. “The problem is that while he was creating, he wasn’t really living the day, he was a mere voyeur during it,” Rooney writes. I see red when anyone tells others how they should live, what they should believe or how they should feel. Judgmental b****!

In fairness, Mr. Disconnected/Disaffected iPhone home video maker kid DID have that carrot for the snowman ready in a hurry. So...
Reading way too much into a commercial just to have something to write. Doesn't bother me much.
I'm WAY more interested in what's happening a few, short, hours from now. Xinhua (China's state-run news arm) is reporting that China Mobile is indeed gonna kick off its 4G LTE network with launch partners today. Quick quote: "China Mobile will hold a worldwide partner conference on Wednesday, when a variety of 4G phones will be launched by domestic and international players."

@xhnews: China Mobile Tuesday signed agreements with 10 mobile phone manufacturers and retailers, the latest foray into the fledgling 4G market.

That was yesterday. I'm quoting from the exact same article: "Lenovo, Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo and Gionee-- as well as retailers and online platforms including Jing Dong, TMall, Suning, Gome and Dixintong."
None of these count as "international players" (as in, companies headquartered outside China) AFAIK.

Maybe China Mobile was telling the truth and negotiations were technically ongoing until yesterday, but perhaps yesterday was always set as the official date for signing the deal.
