Well this is it....earnings day. We also have the Fed meeting this week. News out of China from Bloomberg: China Credit Trust Co. said it reached an agreement to restructure a high-yield product that sparked concern over the health of the nation’s $1.67 trillion trust industry and contributed to a global selloff in emerging-market assets. Meanwhile overseas markets soft especially emerging markets currencies. Currently AAPL up about +3.43 in PM but that means nothing....it's all about tonight's guidance. Not seeing anything in Apple news or even speculation for that matter....silence.
Cheers to the longs! Good luck to all.

Small commentary from JPM on AAPL this morning (which is NOT associated with today's earnings event) but worth sharing nonetheless:
"Foxconn Reportedly Completes Assembly Testing for Sapphire-Covered iPhone (GLW: Neutral): Foxconn is said to have successfully assembled at least 100 prototype next-generation iPhone units with sapphire-covered displays, according to Taiwanese newspaper Apple Daily. Working with sapphire, rather than Corning's softer Gorilla Glass, is said to markedly increase the complexity of the devices' manufacturing process. The report also notes that two of Apple's sapphire suppliers - Synopsys and Bern Optics - have made significant investments in equipment and tooling in recent weeks. (Apple Insider) Our View: We have never believed that Apple is using Sapphire to make iPhones due to the expense. However, the story seems to persistently resurface which makes us wonder. Alternatively, we wonder if the iWatch is driving these rumors ? we do expect that product to use Sapphire."

Russia's Megafon signs new iPhone deal with Apple
MOSCOW, Jan 27 (Reuters) - Russia's second-biggest mobile phone operator, Megafon, said on Monday it had signed a direct contract with Apple Inc and resumed selling iPhones after a four-year break.
Megafon has not been able to sell iPhones since 2009 as the company and its rivals could not guarantee the sales volumes demanded by Apple, industry sources had said.
Megafon said it would buy various iPhone models under the new three-year deal with Apple.
It follows Vimpelcom which in October became the first Russian carrier to sign a new direct contract to sell the iPhone 5s and 5c. Market leader MTS still buys the smartphones from distributors.
Apple has a 20 percent share of a $6.50 billion Russian smartphone market in money terms, or 9 percent of units sold in 2013, according to cellphone retailer Euroset. Apple also sells in Russia through its online store and electronics retailers.

All the REAL commentary and OFFICIAL commentary seems to be positive throughout the quarter and for the foreseeable future. All the BS with FUD is what hurts the stock....and probably 99% of it is nonsense, speculation, and published by people who are short like those nonsensical articles on Seeking Alpha. Stock is getting a nice bounce in the PM here. Hope the west coast crew puts their alarm clocks on and wake up early today!

I believe the Dec. quarter and March guidance are equally important to how WS responds to the stock today, especially in light of Samsung's dismal Dec. quarter.

Cantor Fitzgerald (Brian White - memba him?) maintained a Buy rating on AAPL this morning with a price target of $777.00. He expects Apple to beat consensus estimates for Q1.
"For 1Q:FY14, we believe Apple will at least meet our revenue estimate of $58.6 billion and our EPS projection of $14.31, while delivering upside to the Street's (FactSet Consensus) sales projection of $57.5 billion and EPS estimate of $14.09. Recall, Apple's 1Q:FY14 sales outlook calls for revenue of $55-58 billion," said White.

Not telling you what to do, but an option for you is to buy some bear put spreads. It's like buying insurance to protect your long exposure against down moves in the stock price.

Sapphire ID screen with elimination of the home button sounds incredible. I am not sure what the advantage of Sapphire is. I do believe Apple is targeting the so-called iWatch to the medical area. Having worn a heat monitor for several months years ago, an iWatch-like device would be much better. And to read your blood sugar the same way on a "watch" would be great. If this is all doable, a large price would be very well worth it, and could really help people with heath issues.

Now *that's* what we (Apple) needs! The weight difference mentioned is insignificant IMO. Thanks for the link.

With a (careless?) wife and 3 daughters, don't ask me how I know Sounds to me like you need an OtterBox, or perhaps 5 of them. I got one of these on sale for like $8, best case ever. You can drop it on cement from like 6 feet and not a scratch. Ask me how I know.
